The Maybelle Baby Blanket

What a ride this was, making this Maybelle Baby Blanket. Sooooo much fun!

Maybelle Baby Blanket TILDA Yarn Pack - available soon.

His name is Isak. My new nephew. He has two very excited and proud big brothers: Axel and Arvid. My brother now has a platoon (as he is a military officer...), not a football team, in his home. He is adorable, little Isak, and I made this blanket for him. Although when making it I was convinced it was going to be a girl... But you know what, boys needs flowers too. :)

This is my Maybelle Baby Blanket and I'm so so pleased with it and i have to say it has been the most enjoyable project. Quick, easy, high pretty factor and great satisfaction. A perfect blanket for a new person arriving into this world. I started and finished it within a few weeks, dividing into 4 steps and finishing each one within a time frame. It is the first time I have ever done  a project in that way. With discipline and organization. I often get distracted and start in something new, work on half a dozen projects at the same time... And never seem to finish any of them within a decent time frame. But this time I did. It was great! I should execute a project and plan it more like that in the future. So much more efficient.

I'm currently writing down the full pattern. It will be posted later this week as it will be a FREE pattern, prone to the copyright of the Maybelle Flower which belongs to 6ishthusfish. I will guide you through all the steps of making this pattern in both English and Swedish, with pictures and all. I'm almost there, just a few more Step-By-Step pictures to be taken, a few more links to be added. I'll let you know. I think it will be a bit of a Maybelle Baby Blanket frenzy over here the next few days. And why not? It is just so pretty this blanket, don't you think? And last but not least: I'm putting together a Tilda Yarn Colour Pack for this blanket too which will be available in my Etsy Shop. Stay tuned.

A completely normal day...

The sun was out but the air was still cold. I put on Jay's old and well worn cardigan and folded up the long sleeves, brought my crochet outside.  Next to Jay's motorcycle and tool box, the drying rack full of socks and underwear, I folded up our camping table and chair to sit down and have a creative moment with a cuppa. Just in middle of all the mess. Who cares anyway...

I let my eyes wander over the garden, picked up my camera and snapped a few pictures of the donkeys under the apple trees in bloom. The field is green and lush full of Dandelions. The farmer has set up the electric fence. It is just a question of time before the cows arrive.

The shed, my lovely shed with the broken window and the lace curtain flapping in the wind. The paint hanging in flakes but still charming in its appearance.

With my glasses on the tip of my nose, looking like a grandma already, and with one finger less glove on (the other one was dropped on the floor when I walked outside) I worked a few rows on my latest project. Soon after it got too cold to stay outside and I returned back in to the commotion of making dinner and helping with home work.

Just a completely normal day came to its end. The sun went down and we all went to bed. Closed our window shutters and turned off the lights while the donkeys lay down outside in the grass...

Nothing much to report really, but still kind of precious in its smallness (is that a word???). I share this as a contrast to all the staging, styling and cautious photo shooting, because sometimes maybe just Real Life in its imperfection can be interesting to see too. After all I am just a person, just like you, with a simple and normal every day life. A life that can easily be spiced up and prettified by just opening my eyes to the world. And through the lens I see so much beauty thanks to the square cutting out the mess around the details. That is precious to me. :) That is why I love this space. This is my pretty everyday life. With flaws and all...

It's time for the Zomersjaal

TILDA colors: 3x 002 - Dark Grey, 1 x 572 - Baby Blue, 1 x 088 - Petrol.
Spring. It is time for shawls and light scarves. I'm so delighted to wear my Zomersjaal that I made last year from the book Puur Haken written by my dear friend Maaike van Koert from the blog CreJJtion. This book is a real pleasure to flick through and full of wonderful photography and cute and fun projects. The book is in Dutch, but with help from Maaike's well illustrated diagrams I could work myself through her patterns anyway. So far I have made cool Pot coasters, a Doily, cute Coasters and this Zomersjaal. I want to make the Wintersjaal and the Egg cozies... Well, eventually I will.

My shawl was made in charcoal, using my Tilda yarn (available for purchase here), with accent colors of petrol and light blue. It was a delightful project and the shawl goes perfect with a casual jeans look or with my summery black dresses. The real reward was when I blocked the shawl. My oh my that edging really makes the procedure of blocking worth it. It is gorgeous!

Maaike continues to keep herself busy making new beautiful crochet and knit designs for future book projects and I need to shop her latest book Hollands Welgaren after finishing this blog post. As a big fan, and a dear friend, I can't wait to see what she has tucked up her sleeve this time. Pure prettiness I'm sure.

Visit Maaike's blog CreJJtion to get to know her more, shop the book Puur Haken here and while you are at it, put Maaike's latest book Hollands Welgaren - full of crochet patterns mixed with recipes and crafty projects - into your shopping basket as well. You won't be disappointed, many lovely projects accompanied by tasty cakes are to be made. At least that is what I am imagining. I will let you know once the book arrives... Well lets go shopping shall we?
