Folk art prettyness



[Folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic. Folk Art is characterized by a naive style, in which traditional rules of proportion and perspective are not employed.] Source: Wikipedia.

I am big fan of folk art. I adore Swedish kurbits and German fraktur with the sweeping painted flowers and old fashion "doodle" patterns. Simplicity. Delicate and robust at the same time. Beautiful plain colors harmonizing in layers.

I stumbled upon a dozen hand painted wooden hangers at my favorite thrift store not long ago. It is funny how hanging your favorite clothing on a pretty hanger can bring that little extra happiness to your every day life. It's the small things in life that matters...

PS Thank you all for your sweet support on my last post. You really are the best. Heart you all!!! I am still resting my arm and hand, getting better by the minute.     hi they are lovely and look very much like the painted items on narrow boats and barges that where/are used here in the UK,have you seen any pictures of them,the boats were decorated and tea pots,buckets and all sorts

    hope your are continues to get better Kerena :)

    Oh my goodness! Those hangers are gorgeous! I would love to have something like that to hang my clothes on! Now I'm thinking i need to look for some nice wooden hangers and paint beautiful designs on them! :)

    Oh Annette, these are such a fortunate find! Absolutely lovely. SO sorry to hear about your forced hiatus from hooking. My mother and good friend also are having shoulder issues that keeps them from knitting and crocheting like they would like. I feel so bad for them and you. A good time to hunt for thrift store fun though, eh? ;-)

    oh, they are lovely!
    when i saw them i remembered that i have painted like this when i was a kid!
    i also made some hangers & painted some boxes...
    i should really think about doing that once again.

    How pretty. I bought a book on how to create simple folk art using basic painting techniques and I was wondering what to paint - the hangers are a great idea for a first project. I am moving house soon so creativity has had to take a back seat but once I am settled I will buy some cheap hangers from Ikea and try the techniques. Lily. xxx
