After going on about this for about 10 minutes, my step father promised to take care of it. Carefully wash it, air dry it and put it to use. To look at it and love it. Every day forever. I saved it. I saved one of Eivor's crochet granny throws.
She was an amazing woman, Eivor. Just see this crochet throw she made for me, and this somewhat beat up granny throw made from wool is not to bad either. Thank you for this Eivor. You are an inspiration. You are still present in these beautiful creations around us, even though it was many many years ago you left earth.
I decided to replicate her square, using colours from my Tilda yarn. I found the perfect colors, don't you think? Available in my Yarn Shop if you would like to make Eivor's blanket yourself.

That is a lovely blanket and wonderful yarn. I have a question: I am making my very first granny square blanket at the moment, have almost 100 squares but am looking for ways to put them together. How did you put these squares together? It looks very neat, did you sew them together or did you use a crochet stitch? Would much appreciate your help, thank you in advance.

Annette this is indeed something to be treasured. I have been attaching labels to everything I make with my name and the date on in the hope that something might survive after I have long gone and my grandchildren/great grandchildren will have their memories of me. Your treasures are amazing and what a special person to have in your family. A lovely post as always Annette, you always bring something special to your blog which is why I love it so much.

That is such a treasure and deserves to be used and loved. I remember a granny square blanket that my grandma made when I was a kid and sadly it is lost and gone.

A friend said to me that everybody has two deaths. The first is when someone passes away but the second is when everyone forgets them. Well, you are doing so much to make sure that second part is a long time away. I love the blankets and your post. I hope one day someone loves my creations so much that want to emulate one or two.

What a beautiful heirloom. I always think it is so lovely to have things in your house that your family have made or bought. The blanket is so beautiful and I think it is great that you want to try and make one like that. My granny too was also amazing at crochet and made the most amazing bedspreads. Unfortunately my hamster ate mine when I was young, but I still have one of her blankets that we use every day and it is so very special to me. xoxo

ReplyDeleteMin mormor har en hel garderob full av min mammas farmors (mormors svärmor..)virkade dukar. Löpare, stora dukar, små dukar för fönsterbrädor m m. Varje gång jag är hos mormor frågar hon om jag vill ha nåt och jag nekar.
ReplyDeleteOm du hade en garderob full av virkade dukar i olika former och storlekar, vad hade du gjort med dom? Jag har funderat på att ta ihop dom och göra exv överkast eller nåt..
99% av allt är beige, gräddfärgat eller åt det hållet....
Jag har ingen aaaning om vad göra med det. Slänga bär mig emot.

DeleteJag har själv inte gjort någon kofta eller tröja med Tilda men jag vet att Svarta Fåret som producerar garnet har en uppsjö av monster på allt från scarves till tröjor, filtar, amiguramis, koftar osv. Garnet är ju rätt så fint så för ett tunnare plagg är det nog perfekt. Inte rätta sorten för en gosig ylletröja men säkert perfekt för en babykofta t ex. Många använder Tilda att sticka med. Kolla in Svarta Fårets hemsida och se vad dom har där som förslag på kreationer.
