A fun crochet event

A couple of weeks ago I packed up my car with yarn to take part of the re-opening of the Grand Rue in the beautiful village of Rolle. For 2 years there has been road construction work of the main street and shop owners have really suffered. Some has given up and closed up shop while others has suffered through the hard times hoping for a brighter future. Like my friend Tamara, owner of the fun gift shop Spice Your Life. When Tamara contacted me with the idea of putting up a table with my yarn and an activity outside her shop during this Grand Opening Event, I jumped on the opportunity.

I came up with the fun idea of offering people to Crochet A Row and Win A Crochet Stool. I set up my stand with Tilda and Ulrika yarn, some creations and a basket of yarn to transform into a granny square cover for a white painted stool. It was a huge success already from the start. Colorful yarn has a special effect on people. A steady stream of people stopped by through out the whole day keeping me busy. They bought yarn, crocheted a row, joined my lottery and talked colors and crochet. And so did Mariana from the IG feed @winterbeachbymab aswell.  Mariana makes gorgeous things with her yarn and hook and as always, when meeting a Cyber Friend for the first time live,  I'm amazed at how it feels like we have known each other forever.

The day passed by quickly, the granny square grew and at the end of the day a friend of mine drew the winner out of a hat and imagine my surprise when the winner was Mariana from @winterbeachbymab!!! A week later we met up for coffee and I handed over her finished Granny Square Stool. We could never stop talking... About yarn, blogging, instagram, crochet, living in Switzerland... I see many more meetings and conversations with Mariana coming up. I've found a new friend not far from home. :)

  6. You smart cookie! That is so clever having volunteers crochet a row. It made me sad how some of the shop owners closed up. I hope that construction is over soon and business blooms again.
