Peace in the garden

Cutting back bloomed out flowers. Ripping out old vegetable plants. Weeding a bit. Picking up rotten plums from the grass. It is soothing to spend time in the garden. It is a little bit like crochet actually. Your mind go blank and your brain get to rest from thoughts. You are present in the moment... One stitch after another in crochet, one weed after another in a flower bed. I don;t think about what was before or what is coming after. I just do what needs to be done right here, right now. Mindfulness I think it is called.

My head is a constant buzz of things to do, to remember, to plan for, to analyze... It is seldom still. Seldom quiet. Actually my head drives me slightly insane at times because I want it to be still but it just keeps on spinning like a merry go around without a stop button... But in the garden my mind takes a paus. It is peaceful and I feel recharged after a couple of hours of dirty work.

The sun is warming and the light is so different now in October. Charlie keeps me company and so does even the cows on the field. October might be a month of rain and winds but can also be magically beautiful with the warm light and colorful trees and gardens. More time spent in the garden is on my to-do-list for the future. Yoga for my mind.

  6. Yay for yoga mind & body time. We mums can be busy bees, yeah:, with so much to think of - the house, the chores, the kids, our personal things to do. I really like the set up of your garden. I hope to have raised beds one day since gophers are a pest around here.
