Christmas cozy

The countdown to Christmas is my favorite part. To drag all those boxes of Christmas stuff down from the attic and transform our home into a cozy Christmas cave. Every little thing that is taken out has its place and they all carry a story. And every year new additions arrive to the lot of Christmas decorations. Not because they are needed, more because I can't resist buying them...

Some people may do different themes for each Christmas, one in silver, one with cowboy theme, the glitter one or the rustic Christmas. But I like to stick to them same things over and over again. It gives me a sense of comfort and I think it comforts my children too.

The curtain pole is dressed with a pine garland and this is where most of the handmade decorations my kids have made throughout the years are placed. Each and everyone with a name and year on the back. To remember, to treasure... Made by those small little hands and clumsy fingers.

The advent chandelier is a must, with white candles, moss and mushrooms, to lit every advent until Christmas. And the stars. Of course the stars in the windows are the first thing to come up. There is no Christmas without classic paper stars.

There is a cross stitch wall hanging, handed down from my Mom. And there are my homemade Christmas throws to cuddle up underneath on chilly mornings and all the cushions get their Christmas outfits on.

This years new addition is the cute little owl family. The five of us. Couldn't leave it on the shelf. It just had to come home with me. I adore them. I know they will live with us forever.

Much more is to be added to my home but for now this is perfect. This upcoming weekend I think I'll decorate my window sills outside and hopefully we will have a fabulous Christmas tree to decorate by Sunday night. I leave that mission to the man of the house. Picking a tree is Jay's contribution. He always does it so well.

  1. How Gorgeous Annette, that is just how I think Christmas should be, but I somehow never seem to create it so well. Your children have certainly made some lovely decorations and this is a brilliant way to display them. I may be making a tradition of something like that myself. Thanks for sharing x

  3. Such a beautiful and cosy space my lovely friend. Your home always looks so inviting. We're a bit behind with the Christmas prep around here. We're hoping to tackle the challenges of putting a tree up with a puppy around at the weekend. Wish me luck! :/

  5. So lovely s reminiscent of my Danish Friend's home and Christmas decorations. A lot of her traditions etc I also follow and decorate my home in a similar way. I have many items from Denmark. Sadly she lost her battle with ovarian cancer just two years ago. This year her girls have got out all the decorations and are decorating as she always did. As I put mine in place there are many things that will remind me of the many wonderful Christmases we spent together. X

  8. Christmas is all about memories. I love pulling out all the decorations and being reminded of where they came from and the memories attached to it, there is something rather special about that I think.

  9. Your home looks so cozy! I agree. Traditions are much better than themes. I have the same sort of decorations at my home, beginning with a nativity set that I made 37 years ago for our first Christmas together. I love your windows. And I'm sure your children well remember exactly how your home is decorated. I know my children do and still expect everything the same every year when they return home. Blessings, Betsy

  10. Christmas cozy indeed! Just wonderful. I love seeing holiday decorations, how everyone's take is a bit different. We decorate inside and out, I love this time of year when you can enjoy all the memories that are tied up in with the decorations.

  13. Your home is beautiful, and I must admit I put almost everything up in the same place year after year. Have had to make some adjustments since we now have 3 grandchildren just under 2 years of age and I had rather forgotten just how curious they are and how far they can reach when they want to. Haven't put the tree up yet, and we are trying to figure out, how we will keep it and the kids safe! It will be a marvelous Christmas with little ones!
