Walking in the woods

The wind and the rain forces me to bend over as I walk the path though the woods. Why did I go out, I wonder... It is cold and you would think it is October and not February if you look at the surroundings. I would rather be inside in the warmth of my home, I'm thinking.

The path turns muddy as the public trail turns into an authentic one, and I concentrate hard to navigate between the puddles and slippery slip mud mountains, doing my best to avoid loosing balance. My path turns and now when it is more protected by trees, I raise my head to look forward. And there stands a deer. Just a few meters away from me. She is beautiful. She is big. She is brown and her bottom is chalk white. She looks at me and then she takes off into the woods on my left. And then another deer jumps over the path, following the first one. And another. I'm lost for words and hold my breath while looking after the disappearing deer running into the thick forest land. I want to freeze time.

I'm always amazed when these things happens. I instantly turn into a child in the moment of truth to nature. So exotic. Maybe not that very rare, but pure and beautiful. For the rest of my walk I'm not even bothered by the rain and the wind anymore. I actually think the woods is an excellent place to be. I rest in that moment with a silly grin on my face while finishing my walk with a bubbly happy feeling in my heart. This is going to be a good day.

  4. I like your story very much! It's romantic and personal and maybe philosophic. It could remain everybody of something personal I think. Thanks!

  5. Oh how lovely. I live near the New Forest and sometimes experience unexpected appearances of deer. I totally agree that it is mesmerising and brings a smile to my face too.

  6. What a Lovely moment! Yes, that will live on in your memory - that very natural - but not that common for most - just make you want to stop and see over and over...which I'm sure you do in your own mind. I am jealous! I have had similar moments and they live on in my memory so I can call them up when I "need a smile". (you know THOSE days - we all have them from time to time.)
Those precious moments - and happy moments with your children are what keep us going...I always think of them as "Little Blessings" from the Lord - because He knows when we need a smile.

Enjoy your lovely walks....rain or shine. As long as your are dressed appropriately - who cares. You may be lucky enough to see even more...in the Spring you could see some babies....and THAT is a sight! (just don't try to get near, 'cause Momma deer will protect that Fawn!

  8. What an absolutely stunning memory. I often have similar things happen. I wonder, "why in the world am I doing this." Just about that time, a wonderfully serendipitous thing happens and I realize exactly why I'm in that place at that time. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
