A crochet pillow portrait

This was my vacation project. It took a few movie nights to finish it when we got back home from Sweden. At one point I thought the grey was dull and boring (about 2 years ago when some of these squares actually were made...) but now in 2012 I think the grey works fantastic with all the vivid colors.

I made granny squares with 6 rows each, joined them with slip stitches on the back and then I framed the granny squares with a few rows of trebles (UK) before I made a simple shell edging. It is hand sewn on to a pillow case with slip stitches.

Like I said in my Pillow Talk post a few days ago, you can never have to many pillows can you? :D This pillow will be a perfect color splash on our new sofa. I will always think of that wonderful summer vacation 2012 in Sweden when this pillow was hooked and brought to life. You see, that is what handmade is all about. Memories, love, passion and that every single item is unique in itself. There will NEVER be a pillow like this one. And this pillow already has history, even though it is brand new. That is amazing... Don't you agree?

And I want to take the chance to thank you all for the feed back on my Google Alert question. You are the best! I think I have figured it out now... Maybe... :D

  3. It is a lovely pillow. I love the edging you have used. Your words about what handmade is were beautifully put. Things we have made, mark times in our life that we can recall vividly years later. They anchor us in our personal histories Many projects will outlive us but provide memories for those that come after us. A a thought provoking post. Thank you.
