I am so proud of my youngest class member so far, Emelie 8 years old. At this week's Crochet Workshop she came with her mother to improve her crochet skills. We decided to go for the granny square as both mother and daughter already had done some basic stitch practising. It started off a bit rough, the first row in a granny square is always a bit hard but look... She did it! And she even changed color for her 4th row. Well done Emelie!
I have to say, teaching kids how to crochet brings out the most patient and best tutor in me. You kind of let your guard down and just go very slow and hands on with your guiding and this helps not only children but everyone in the class. We had a lovely time and time went by way to quickly. Homework for next weeks class is to make more granny squares. I can't wait to see what they will look like. Teaching crochet is so much fun and so so so rewarding. I am enjoying myself as much as my students are. It couldn't be better. :D

Wow, that´s great! And that shop seems a lovely environment to be in.
ReplyDeleteShe did a great job on that. Look at her cute little face!
ReplyDeleteAny tips for teaching children? My 7 yr old son wants me to teach him. I have attempted to teach him in the past but he didn't have the dexterity at that point.
ReplyDeleteOh, it is sooo nice!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post with some really special students!!
ReplyDeleteHello Annette, I always enjoy your blog and thank you for all the inspiration and tutorials. You sound like a wonderful crochet teacher. A couple of years ago a lady in my exercise class asked me to show her how to crochet and since then we have become great friends and have shared many wonderful days enjoying our craft. She has struggled a bit with learning but persevered and has now made some lovely blankets, and I am so happy to have helped a grandma to learn a new skill!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you have such a young student, that is the future of the craft. A friend of mine also taught her girls and wrote a great piece for our group on how and why she taught them (and not her boys!)
ReplyDeleteWow Annette I certainly admire your patience - I've been trying to teach a couple of work colleagues and that's hard enough! Tomorrow I'm taking a group of six year olds for a Christmas craft club - wish me luck! Jane x
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I first learned to crochet around nine years old and I never forgot how to do it. I did lose interest for many years but I was always able to pick it up again when the mood struck. Good for Emilie. :)
ReplyDeleteShe looks proud as can be, and she should be. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
To be able to impart your knowledge clearly and patiently is definitely a gift, Annette. You're an angel!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it do your heart good too to see children crocheting? My daughter hasn't yet progressed past chaining!

Emelie has done a grate job, well done to you both.
ReplyDeleteEmeile You are the best!! :) I tried to teach my daughters ( 8 and 10) how to crochet... the first time they did only the... chains :) All the best for You Annette and for all yours big and small students, always have lots of fun on class :)
ReplyDeleteGood!!!! Thumbs up for you and your students!!!!

Haha, and I am so happy to be done with teaching kids to crochet, at least for a while. I work as a teacher right now and I have had hell trying to teach 15 ten-year olds how to crochet, at the same time! I am so proud to see that they didn`t just learn how to, but a lot of them liked it. But as I said, it feels so good to be done. :)
ReplyDeleteI've a nine year old......I wonder if she would want to learn! Just fab, you can crochet away together! I've just read your pin interest post, I just daren't go near it, not with my addictive personality!!! :) x
ReplyDeleteI so desperately want to be in that space every time I see your photographs! Gosh it's SO beautiful! You are obviously a very patient and skilled teacher. I taught my 11 year old daughter recently, and was so incredibly proud the way she picked it up and enjoyed it. You must find it super rewarding x have a great week x
ReplyDeleteAwe, her granny square is adorable. I am blushing and hiding behind my hands...i have yet to complete a granny square, well that I am satisfied with anyway. Wish I could attend your class? Btw do you have any you tube tutorials???
