Friends Forever

I miss being with friends I can let down my guard with.
I miss being with girls I know inside and out.
I miss being with a person who gets where I'm from and totally understands it.
I miss being with a good friend in silence just feeling comfortable without words.
I miss girly chats and giggles and plain silliness.
I miss cocktail and dancing nights in good company with the party hat on.
I miss exaggerated dramatic stories and analysis about everyone else... Just not us...
I miss coffee talks and simple shopping walks with a best friend.
I miss having that person I can call whenever in good and bad times.

It can be a lonely business leaving your roots, family and friends behind to live a life abroad with the one you love and the family you created...
It can be difficult to find that natural bond that you have with the friends from the past.
It can be challenging to let people in, once you have a family and a grown up life to lead and live...

I so miss having a simple and good friend around actually. I didn't realize until all my old girl friends came down to visit. As much as we have changed through the years, grown a part and finding each other again, we are somehow all the same when leaving all the family business and responsibilities behind becoming just us girls again. I love you all girls. Lets do it again soon. We rock the world when we are together.

  1. Wow, couldn't have said it better myself. I have thought that many times since coming to the US. As many new friends I have made, a little bit of home always stays with you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  2. I understand. We moved from Florida to Texas recently; we don't know anyone here, and it's been a difficult transition. I miss my friends. It's just not the same connecting through electronic devices.
Glad you enjoyed your time with your friends.

  3. I hope that you can start to build another group of girlfriends who you can do all these things with and share the ups and downs of life with. I am sure that you will in time, and perhaps they will become some of your dearest friends, I sincerely hope this will happen. xx

  4. Oh That is so true! I feel the same now. I really miss all my friends at work in India. We were such a wonderful group. We are in touch but not on a daily basis like it used to be. After reading your post, I feel like meeting all my girl friends. (nostalgic <3 <3 )
Hope you had loads of fun with them. Happy for you!

  5. I understand how you feel! I only moved to the other side of the UK, not a different country. I wonder sometimes, how our lives would have turned out had we stayed where we came from.

  6. Ah yes, being away from one's roots, speaking a language which is not our mother tongue and settling into a different lifestyle in another country... I know the feeling!
Glad you were able to get together with all your old pals and have such fun together!

  11. Sisterhood never dies and in real friendship distances and years mean nothing when finally together again, that's were us girls are so different from the men.
I know how you feel having left my home country 27 years ago I still miss it and somehow things always feel worse in the dark grey light of winter.

Keep smiling and spirits up, sending big warm hug my friend xx

  12. This post brought a tear to my eye, I know so precisely how you are feeling, having done the exact same thing with my life! I love my family, I would move to the moon for my husband, but having spent the holidays with friends back in America, I am feeling the same longing for the good ol' days, best friends sharing time and making happy memories. I know words can't make it ant easier, but know that you are not alone with these lonely feelings...Chrissie xoxo

  13. I'm so with you and understand exactly what you are saying....I live in the UK but my best friend lives in NZ....I long to do all those things with her like you've just described here....but sadly, there's not much chance of it happening anytime soon....I miss my family too....terribly....I feel so very isolated and alone in the UK ....isn't life so very hard sometimes -xx-

  14. Good friends are the very best, I am so blessed to have them and actually they are all over the country, but we talk on the phone and stay connected. I'd be a mess without them.
    Hugs,

  15. This post got me Geary eyed because I am born and raised in California, and that will always be home to me. But I live in Texas with my husband and two children. I love my life, not so much where I live (to put it nicely) but I love who I live with. I try to make the best of it but my heart yearns for home and I miss my family and friends and all the things you described. I am not complaining because I know I am blessed but i do have my bad days. Its so true...Home is where the heart is.
