When driving down towards the big Auto Route, I pass fields of gold and lush greens (although the golden fields are fading quick now...) Sometimes I have to stop to give way for the local farmers' cows who are moving from one field to another. I don't mind stopping my car for a couple of minutes and sit in silenece listening to the symphony of the cow bells when they pass by.
There is a lot of farmer's land where I live. The village is small with only 2030 habitats, but we have everything we need here; grocery store, pharmacy, post office, bank, hair dresser, flower shop, restaurant, café, school, medical office, library, hardware store, gift shop, paper shop, local dairy shop, daycare, sports center, mechanic garage...
When we moved here many couldn't understand how we could choose such a back country place to live. The smell, the farmers' mentality, and so far away... Far from what I wonder? We are all different. We have different needs. I need fields and nature, silence and a village. I wouldn't want to have it any other way. I truly think I am lucky.

ReplyDeleteYou have so much in your village - we don't even have a shop! but Chamonix centre is only 4km away. My husband is a nordic ski and biathlon instructor so he is often in the Jura. He even took me there on honeymoon - to Les Rousses (we were building our house at the time and couldn't afford to go too far away).
I love the 'rural' life too - we have fields and woods around us for the kids to play, chickens in the yard and Geneva less than an hour drive if we want to go to a city (which is not often). Sadly we are lacking in yarn shops in the local area - do you have many in the Jura?
I recently made myself a lovely Maybelle flower garland - inspired off course by yours!
I don't see why it would be difficult to understand your choice, your village looks amazing, I love the town but I don't find it hard to see why you love your place so much.

You are more than lucky!!! I moved to Ireland (Co.Kerry to be exact) from one of the biggest cities in Poland. I wouldn't change it - even if someone paid me to do so ;) I was born and was living in a block of apartments for 29 years of my life. Past 2 years I've been living in a house, with a small garden, a cat, flowers and salads in my pots, view of the highest mountain in Ireland, the sound of cows and sheep, the "country smell" and all that in a village of around 2000 inhabitants. We are lucky!

I would sit gazing at the valleys and the greenery and rainy season specially used to be my favourite. Surprising to learn that people tie bells around the neck of cows even there. It happens here in India too :) I miss my home town. I now live in a city......

I love the pictures of your village! I totally understand why you choose to live there. I am in the process of moving to a small town in Northern Nevada, where the pace is slower, there are farms, ranches, cattle and all kinds of wildlife. Susan
