What is it with crocheting pillows? Why is it so much fun and so much pleasure? Why do I keep wanting to make them although I have a house full of them already?
Maybe because it is not an overly BIG project. It is bigger than a small cup cozy, yet not big and time consuming like a large blanket. It is something in between. You can start on a pillow and finish without getting bored or distracted on the way. It is a safe project.
A crochet pillow project can be alternated in a million ways. Crochet granny squares, stripes, rounds, rounds in squares, triangles, hexagons, textured stitches, doily patterns, bright colors, faded colors, natural colors, solid color, heavy yarn, fine yarn... Yep, you can truly let your imagination run away with you with a pillow project.
I am a big fan of making crochet pillows. The round Shell Stitch Pillow (or call it Ruffle Pillow if you want), is from the Dutch crochet book Haken & Kleur by Claire at Haken en meer blog and Saskia at Haken bij Saar en Mien blog. This duo is just ready to release their second super inspiring crochet book Haken & Kleur Feest in September. Keep an eye on these girls. They rock when it comes to colorful crochet patterns and quirky eccentric style. And believe it or not, I just happen to have a signed copy of their book Haken & Kleur just waiting to be given away to one of you! Stay tuned for an upcoming Give Away and until then go visit their blogs to get a taste of their style.
The white popcorn and lace pillow is my own design with upcoming pattern to be released his month. YAY! A new pattern! That is about time, right? More patterns are in the making. I am looking forward to a productive fall here at My Rose Valley.

ReplyDeleteAnd they make perfect gifts. Give one then give another for birthday or Christmas! Gift list completed easily! I love the shell stitch pillow - might just be perfect for my sister's new summer house. Thankyou!
ReplyDeleteHi Ann
DeleteWhat a great idea! Especially if a birthday is close to Christmas... One for a birthday and the matching one for Christmas.

I love these pillows. Gorgeous. I have not tackled one myself yet, I am a beginner, but getting the hang of it pretty quick. Crochet is so much faster than knitting! T x
ReplyDeleteThank you Annette for sharing this. There can never be enough colorful crochet everywhere. :-D

Ah.... that's exciting news: new patterns! Looking forward to that - very much! Lovely post, super lovely pillows; you probably know the colors I usually go for, but I really, really like the soft tones you've picked for these two beauties, Annette. And totally feel the same way about crocheting pillows (that's why I have way too many too .... haha)! Marianne, xx
ReplyDeleteDear Marianne
DeleteI know your color theme... And I'll show you that delicate lace square in a brighter version later. The patterns is excellent even for someone as vibrant as you! :)

I need to make a pillow or 2! But I'm in the midst of an afghan that has been a WIP for nearly 2 years *yikes*
ReplyDeleteOh dear! You really need a small delightful project to break up that big heavy project of yours. You need to make a pillow or a bunting or a bunch of pot holders to find your way back to the energy to finish your afghan.

They're very pretty and I like the solid colours. A friend sent me a little mat to sit my enamel tea pot on, made with the shell stitch your pillow is in. It's something I use every day.
ReplyDeleteLove that white cushion (pillow). In the UK we call these cushions - a pillow is what we sleep on. Looking forward to the pattern for it.
ReplyDeleteHi Gillian
DeleteThank you for that... Didn't really know there was a difference between cushion and pillow. Will keep that in mind for the future and how I name my patterns. :)

I too also love to crochet cushions, I totally agree that they are the ideal sized project!

ReplyDeleteHi Annette, does the crochet book you mention come in a English translation would love to make that pink cushion :) Kerri
ReplyDeleteThey are addictive, as I look at six on my sofa now, (and not counting the multitude on everyone's bed!).lol Those are both beauties. Claire and Saskia both are very talented ladies, and I love their sense of color.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your pattern Annette, it looks lovely!
ReplyDeletePat xx
Both are lovely, but your white one is so beautiful, I love the fact that it is just one colour, it looks so calm! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Annette,
