As number one on my list for a cozy warm home is handmade goods. Number two has to be old worn furniture. And number three is the sign of life. Lets show the world a little bit of mess. Lets show the visitor that someone really LIVES here.There is nothing more boring than entering a spotless and perfectly arranged home... in my opinion.
I have wanted to make myself a cozy and warm home for... 25 years now. I still haven't gotten to the task. I guess I am a bit of a rootless person, always hesitating to take out the hammer and make a hole in a wall. That is the main reason why my collected hooks, shelves, frames and other interior decorating goods are stored in the attic in boxes and I don't really now where to start. Any advice on how to tackle this mission is welcome. I sure need advice...
Since moving away from home I have moved so many times... From one continent to another, one apartment to another house... Never really settled down with the thought of this being my home. But now... We have been in this house for almost 5 years now. It is time to feel at home.
This crochet pillow adds that little extra to my Scandinavian homespun/country/bohemian chic style. It came out of some "I-don't-have-a-clue-what-I-am-making" crocheting a couple of weeks ago, and turned out to become a real little sugar pie. I thought of putting it in my shop, therefor the label, but I changed my mind. I love it to much. It fits perfect in my home and it is bringing me one step closer to the really cozy feel that I want around here.
Instead I think I will make more pillows like this to put in my shop. Everyone needs something handmade to feel loved and comfortable. It doesn't matter what style you are - a crochet pillow fits in everywhere. Don't you think?

YeaH!! A crochet pillow fits everywhere!!!! I know that now, after crocheting five of them in a row!!! ;oD I would love to have a cosy home, too, but I still don't know when we'll leave from Indonesia (to where?), so....

Definitely! As for a hand made home, I think yours already is! When I'm decoration a room I'm always inspired by something, it could be a colour, bit of furniture, something I've seen. I just evolves, I don't think about it too much, which probably shows! It has to FEEL right, and I'm not really sure how to explain that one! Ada :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with your views on what makes a cozy, comfortable, loved and welcoming home. I love your cushion and I don't blame you for keeping it! As for getting it out of the attic and into your home, how about starting small? Just try tackling one corner and see if you can add a few touches to make it feel more cozy and take it from there. Also, I always try to remember, when taking hammer and nail to the wall - it will only take about 2 minutes with some wall filler and a dab of paint if this was a horrible mistake! It's not quite such a big deal as it feels (that's what I try to keep in mind anyway!)

Exactly! I know so well how you feel about moving and not be able to settle down. We moved so many times and every second year we came to that point of not knowing whether we can stay or not. So I never settled down inside. Two years ago, when my husband changed his job, I decided to settle down as much as I can. We renovated the flat and invested in it although it is only rented. It is so much better now! Years can go by and when you look back you think, why haven't we done this or that. Even if it turns out it was only for a short time it is worth the inner peace that comes with it! And handmade things like your georgious cushion definitely make you feel at home! Enjoy your Sunday! ReplyDeleteLovely granny square cushion! Yes, they do make a home look homely and I've just made one too! I just adore them and I'm now making one for a Christmas gift. It will be nice to organize your home with all the stuff in the attic. As Sandra from Cherry Heart says: just a corner at a time.

Home is anywhere you are with your family. Take out the pictures and put holes in the walls, also crochet lots more beautiful pillows that make it more cozy for everyone.

ReplyDeleteEveryone who comes to my place says it is cozy and inviting. I could never live in a stark environment. Every time I try to weed things out and leave some open space, I find myself filling it again. My walls are filled to the brim. Hard to find space for anything else, but I manage to somehow. ReplyDeleteYour blog is often the first one I check out every day because it has a lovely cosy, happy, bright feel and I love to see what you've been working on. Most of us (if not all) would love to drop by for a cup of tea, a chat and a little rest with one of your pillows to sink into. If you can do that in a blog I reckon your home has the same feel to it and I think your photos show that every time you post. What I see is a cosy warm home with lots of love. That's quite an achievement!

This is how I make my crochet cushion:
Make a complete pillow cover with white muslin as a front and a decorative fabric for the envelope backing.
Hand stitch the crochet front on to the front of the pillow cover. That always works for me. Good luck and welcome back.
