It's A New Day Heading Towards A New Future

Yesterday belongs to the past. Today is a new beginning. I choose happy moments and leave yesterday's shocking history behind. But before I do so I want to say thank you all for sharing your thoughts yesterday. It might not be a subject for a crafty blog, but I needed to share and I'm glad you shared it with me. I might have lost some of you after yesterday's post, but if that is the case I guess we can just agree to disagree. It's ok.

The first snow has arrived, covering my garden lightly with some snow sprinkles. My girl lit candles while having breakfast. I'm letting go of disappointment and am focusing on my little world instead. Live, Laugh, Love seem to be a good message to give today. To remember there is still a future full of hope and it will be what we make out of it.

I air out my bedroom and make my bed sheets crisp and fresh. Izzy joins me at the window, looking out over snow covered roofs and chimneys. My little girl skipped off to school in full winter outfit and I'm welcoming this change in climate. My man has taken off to "Trump Land" on a business trip and I'm actually ok. Yesterday was a hard day but today is better. After rain comes sunshine. It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life. And I'm feeling good.

PS My camera has been at the repair man for 3 weeks now (!!!) and it frustrates me as I miss snapping moments of happy from my life. The phone pictures are far from making these snap shots justice, but I don't have a choice for the moment.

  1. Yes, that is a good message. I am doing the same, focusing on that which is close to me. It seems the only thing I want to do in the face of a worrying world at the moment.

  2. Hello. Just to reassure you and your husband that we don't think that all Americans wanted Trump or support his views.
Will not be leaving your blog :-) Have a happy day. Anne x ( UK )

  3. What a lovely post - I couldn't agree more! Trying my best to focus on the positive and seek comfort in the little things - a kind word, the wonderful community on Instagram, cozy knitting and being with family. There is still so much kindness if only we know where to look. Big hugs xx

  4. There are two worlds, our own personal world and 'the world' (which we really do have little impact on). It's easy to get carried away by all the problems out there. The thing is we can do little about them except worry which can ruin our own life. We can help if and when we can off course, but usually that isn't even possible, at least in a significant way. Today every catastrophe is brought to us by mass media, and then verbally dissected for days, just hours after the event. Historically events overseas (wars etc.) would take weeks or months to filter through. This must have lessened the impact and stress. Our world seems to get smaller and smaller, yet things are actually as removed as they have always been. We can't make the world's worries all our own. We just can't. This doesn't solve anything. If we all minded our own lives and made those as good as possible for those directly impacted by our behaviour life would be better for all. We can involve ourselves in places we can make a difference and better use our energy for that, than fretting about things we can do nothing about. We should all endeavour to bloom where we are planted and share with our close neighbours whose lives we are entwined with, and our actions can impact on. That doesn't mean we don't care (I care deeply about conditions of women in the world for instance, but it is more practical to help in ways I can the women around me.)

So, events will be as they are over in America meanwhile we have plans to make of our own and lives to lead. Yes politics impacts on our lives including that of lands overseas but we can't change most of it. We can choose our response though. You live in a better place than the US, be sure of that and keep making a good life for your own family. The US people voted for their new president - that's how democracy works, misguided people get to choose! Many of them will be rather happier today albeit at the expense of others, which is the tragedy. The world will not end though and brighter days will come.

  5. I feel the same. It's as if my crochet grounds and soothes me right now. Even though I am in the UK, I feel rocked by it all too. Simple, homemaking and living each other will get us all through. Xx
