Crochet errors - I'm frogging it!

I followed a pattern for this granny stripe cowl (checking the amount of chains to start with which was132 if I remember it right...) and I thought it looked great, but when trying it on it just sits there like a wide cylinder with no function, no drape and no warming cuddle effect at all. It is simply too wide for a cowl and too short to wrap around twice... I think I will have to start all over and either make it a double wrap cowl or a snug one. It is frustrating when crochet goes wrong and you don't realize it until you are almost finishing it... And now I have to sit and fibble, trying to find those very carefully weaved in ends. So typical that I weaved in all those ends row by row this time... I am frogging it!

  1. I know the feeling but the colors are beautiful and I think it's worthwhile to start over.
    Good Luck :-)

  2. I hate that! You are very good that you are taking the patience to frog it. I'd probably just abandon it in the bottom of my "not quite there" crochet projects! LOL

  3. I am not sure about cowls, I always think they are neither here nor there. I made one which was a double wrap cowl as you described and that was much more snug. Never mind, we can't win 'em all. Jo x

  4. Oh no Annette - what a shame. The colours are beautiful but I know what you mean - if it's not right you'll never wear it. Far better that you start again and make something you're happy with. Good luck for round two x Jane

  5. I hate when that happens! AND it always happens seems like when I'm a 'good girl' and work in those ends! grrrr I really like the color combination though. Hope the next version works better.

  6. That's exactly why I don't sew in my ends until the end! I know it leaves an awful lots of ends to finish off but trying to unpick them if anything has to be ripped back is a real pain.

  11. I'm with you on the frustration - I too am making something and was supposed to have 42 stitches and have ended up with 53 and have no idea how. I hope your cowl works out in the end. It looks so lovely.

  12. Absolutely blooming typical that you sorted ends as you went!! I think I'm too late if you are already frogging, but I was going to suggest blocking it maybe? It's often a good way to get things to drape and 'go floppy' again after being worked up... In any event the colours are absolutely stunning!

  13. Sometimes crochet or knitting just takes a bad turn and will not behave, then you have no choice but to frog.

  14. When I have projects that don't just work out right...I usually have to just set them aside then just go to sleep before I pick up the project again. The colors are beautiful so don't get discouraged!

  15. Life's too short! Put it in the cat's bed or stuff it down the back of the sofa!

  16. Oh the frustration. Been there, done that. But I'm always happier when I do start over again. So I guess it'll be worth it. (And, okey, I'll admit it: sometimes I just don't bother and move on to another project) The colors look nice though!
    Good luck on round two.
