Late blooming Pinterest-er

Photos: Links to original sources on all pictures above can be found in my Pinterest account
Lately I've been creating boards of all kinds, filling them with delicious photos and links. I am talking about my Pinterest boards of course...

I am a bit of a late bloomer here, I know. I mean, Pinterest has been around for how many years? And I am signing on NOW? But the truth is, I've been afraid of it. Afraid of getting sucked into it if I start. And this is, of course, exactly what has happened.

Do I have to say I am deep in to it? Do I have tell you I probably should join some kind of "Pinterest AA" meetings? Do I have to admit I am absolutely loving the Pinterest game? If the kids play Minecraft for hours, I could easily spend the same hours playing Pinterest.

I get sucked into the World of Pinterest like a dust bunny into the vacuum cleaner. Sluuuuurrrrrp! Once inside I am jumping around from one board to another, from one picture to another. I pin pin pin, and the more I pin the more inspiration I find. It takes me here and there and everywhere. It takes me places I never thought existed. It sounds like I've been trying a drug. I guess Pinterest is some kind of drug. A virtual drug of inspiration.

I quickly get an overdose of inspiration and pinning. Get exhausted. My head spins of new ideas, new color combinations and creations I want to make... The only thing I want to do is crochet, sew, craft and decorate. Forever! And ever! And so I pin a little bit more. And more. And more.

This is all written with certain exaggeration of course, although between the lines you can read that this is very close to the truth. And even if Pinterest is addictive and maybe can turn into an unhealthy obsession, it is a great source of information and inspiration.

It helps me identify what I like, who I am. I have always been a lost soul when it comes to style and my wardrobe is worse than a scrappy quilt - mixing every style and color imaginable - and I have always wondered what is really "moi".  Because I tend to love a bit of everything. Filling my boards and then stepping back to look at them helps me see the red thread throughout what I really like. What my style is. It is fabulous!

Right now I am deep into Christmas pinning. My favorite holiday of the year. But I also have pins about Rag Rugs and Tea Cups, Crochet and Everything Cozy, Color combos and great DIY's, Yarn baskets and Patchwork, Sweden and Folk art... I also have boards with My work, My tutorials and My patterns, but I really don't want my Pinterest account to be a self indulgence in my own creations. There is nothing more boring. The purpose behind those boards are to use them as Portfolios when looking for work and building my business.

Come and follow me on Pinterest. Slowly I am filling up my boards with yummy, loving inspiration and colors. And if there are some insider tips I should know about when it comes to pinning, Pinterest manners etc, please let me know.

  4. I COMPLETELY understand your pinterest obsession. I joined up w/ pinterest about the time they first existed, or shortly thereafter and I've been loving it ever since. It's a place you can totally get lost in! But, good news. I have created TONS of things based on ideas I've seen on pinterest. I've made recipes, learned new crochet stitches and found about a million things to do with Pallets! AND...I've followed through an actually done some of them. Pinterest-land is a happy land and I love to visit there. Feel free to visit me: http://www.pinterest.com/sherjenks

  5. I LOVE pinterest! My favourite part of the day is when I have an hour or so in the evening to browse it and find lots and lots of visual bliss. My biggest board is crochet of course. Now I've started a Christmas board too. And thanks for reminding about baskets! I haven't looked at them at all.

  9. Awwww... I know exactly what you mean about Pinterest giving you so many ideas that your head spins ... And then... Reality creeps in and as much as I want to crochet, paint, mosaic, garden and cook, work gas to come first.

  10. I love Pinterest too; its definitely been a source of huge inspiration for me - such a great resource!! I know exactly what you mean about helping to distill or realize your own style - me too! And...a dust bunny into the vacuum cleaner - ha ha - so true! I'm now following you, as I love your boards as much as your blog : ) (I'm Quince&Pippin, btw) Talking of Pinterest manners, I'm never sure if pinning a lot from someone's boards is bad pinning manners, but if so apologies, as I've pinned a lot from yours (personally I don't mind at all...) Have pinning fun! And thanks for your inspiration, Jen x

  11. I was a late pinterest-er too and created an account few months back. I agree to what you say about it . It is an inspirational addiction. I started the account for personal use.
The only thing I decided was that while I share my pinterest link with my friends I won't expect them to follow or comment or whatever...just that if they liked what I have found they can repin it. I do the same. It just keeps my mind free of social networking statistics:).....off I go to your link and repin some of your beautiful finds...

  15. Annette, welcome to the most fun time waster ever created! I love Pinterest and have been with them since they started. I love it and find wonderful inspiration for my knitwear business, but also great fashion, recipes, book reviews, new products out there and so on. I'm happy to be following some of your boards.

  16. Although pinterest can be a total time suck, I find it so useful to organize my thoughts when it comes to decorating, crafting, cooking and my wardrobe. Plus its cool to look at my boards and see how my interests have evolved over the years I've been using it. Now I'm off to see what you've been pinning that I need to re-pin for myself.

  20. Oh, I just found you through Bloglovin' and went straight to take a look at your pinterest boards and I'm now following a couple because I am a Pinterest addict...When the weather is grey and can't find inspiration, Pinterest is the place. Not theta I find inspiration, I just waste time...but in a creative way, so that I don't feel guilty! Oh, and that's your shop in the post before this one? WOW!! Looks stunning.

  22. Hej! Vad roligt att hitta in till dig. Min mamma handarbetar mycket och jag tycker det är jättefint men har själv inte tålamod att pyssla med det. Jag pysslar med annat istället.....

  23. It's not that bad actually. I rarely pin these days as in my early days I pinned so much and all the time. There was a lot of back log. But now I don't see that much that I want to pin, just if someone makes something new, or if I find something I haven't seen before. It's still there if I do though and I like to look through my boards from time to time. I put most of it on just one board as I like an eclectic mix and don't like too many categories. That's what librarians and scientists do!

  24. I think the novelty does wear off after a while, after you get sated with it, and then you tend to just dip back in occasionally, maybe when you have the germ of an idea and are looking for some more inspiration.
Have just followed you on Pinterest but strongly resisted the urge to start madly pinning your pins - I'll save that for another day!
    Gill xx
