Embracing pastels

The weekend was dedicated to sorting. You know, sorting all those boxes of "stuff", bags of "bits & pieces" and drawers of just "things"... So this weekend I got started, without plan. And I sorted, and trashed, and sorted, and found...

I truly found some real goodies, like this pretty project. It was neatly put away in a plastic folder as a WiP [Work In Progress] to be continued one day... The softest yarn in the most pretty pastels...

It was an impulse purchase at my local department store Manor in 2012 (OMG!!!), and to be honest it is not even my color theme. Saying this I do LOVE and ADORE pastels, but I just can't make myself wear it or use it in my home. But still I fall hard for it every single time I am confronted with it.

What is it with girls and pastels? Why do we LOVE it so much? It is amazing to see the reaction in my IG feed after publishing something in pastels... It goes rock high!!! And I can't help finding myself drooling over pretty images in this color palette. Wanting it, craving it, needing it...

Maybe it is in our genes - the purity, delicacy, innocence and sweetness of a pastel color scheme... Maybe it makes us feel elegant, graceful, stylish and ladylike. Maybe it brings out the woman in us, our femininity...

So I am embracing the woman in me and I am determined to make something out of this crochet swatch of stripes to wear. The trial crochet swatches are all pretty but I will take care of the stripes and turn them into a cozy girly cowl. When I'm done I'll promise to share the Free Pattern with you. Oh how exciting. It is good to challenge yourself and step out of your color palate comfort zone. I can't wait to finish this!

  1. Color, and the emotions they pull from us is always fascinating to me. Those are a lovely combination,( I wouldn't have thought of the browns but it works!) I look forward to seeing the finish cowl. Have a great day!

    1. I'm another one who loves pastels. Yo have a good eye for colour. I like how you've mixed the pastels with the darker colours. It's very pretty.

  3. Interesting! I NEVER wear pastels and they aren't part of our home pallet either. Yet they jump out at me and make me drool. Maybe it is biologic? The years of tending to babies (our own or through milenia of evolution) that has us so intensely linked to pastels. What is more pastelly than a baby's skin?

  6. I think it is in our genes, because even though I'd have no room in which that combo of colors would fit, I love them all. ;)

  10. Sometimes you just have to go with colours that are different from your normal palette. These look really good.

  11. They are an unsusual palette for you, but I do love it very much. Funny that I'm feeling a little bit 'pastel' myself lately. I think I was inspired by Coco Rose this time though, have you seen her granny square cowl? Gorgeous!

  12. I love the look of pastels but I find if I try to work with then, either in crochet or hike decor, I feel depressed!! With the result I have done tonnes of baby gifts and I could count in one hand the number that were done in pastels! Weirdo or what? LOL
