My life shines like a diamond

Some people want me to write more about "real life". They think I show to much of a "shiny side of life". And maybe it is shining to bright for some... I guess it depends on where you are at in life, and for me I see it differently.

Blogging has helped me to see and notice all the small things, the invisible everyday stuff, the ignored and simple things in life. The beautiful, graceful, delicate, amazing, loving, wonderful moments of living. Because life is here and now. Sitting in traffic sucks, but if your favorite tune is playing it can become a great moment anyway. Turn it up and sing along. Traffic won't move anyway.

It is like chasing affirmations for me, to share my moments of happiness. May it be a bunch of tulips, a sun set, my children, reflections about life, pretty leaves, yarn balls, warm and cozy messy beds, simmering pots of good food, happy coffee breaks and crochet moments... When chasing these moments I see them with open eyes, happiness is highlighted throughout my days and is suddenly placed at the front of the stage. To be seen. To be cherished. To be lived. To be felt.

It all becomes interesting. At times it is like a sensation of opening my eyes for the first time to really see life as it is. Having a muffin while helping Luca Bo with homework can be a treasured moment... Something to remember - him and me, together, working AND enjoying. Does that sound to shiny to you?

Because even though life is full of dull moments, duties and chores, tears, yelling, squabbles, worries and a million more hard things, we can make it shine through all that if we just "see" the moments of good. And suddenly hanging laundry becomes a lovely and happy moment in the day instead of boring and dreading chore... Because laundry is incredibly beautiful, flapping in the wind. And the air is so refreshing to breath in. And stretching my arms up feels so good. Do you get it?

Dare to feel happiness. Dare to see the beauty. Dare to create a life full of happy small moments. My blog is a real life story because I have chosen to see and cherish the moments of good to create a life that shines like a diamond - with faults and all. And I will continue to share the "shiny side of life" because it makes me feel good.

  1. Bravo!! Just because bad things happen and some days are tough it doesn't make your life better by stewing over them! Get up, move on, and enjoy the time you have here - it can be gone in an instant! I know having almost died 4 years ago from complications from an illness. I could have easily just crawled in a hole and spent the rest of my life in a dark place, but I choose not to. It's MY choice how to see things not how someone else "thinks" you should. All the things you mention in you post are exactly what I try to do every day. See the good, the beauty, the simplicity in everyday things. It has made my life so much richer. Keep up the beautiful posts Annette and don't let anyone tell you what THEY think you should feel!

You do a great job this way.

  11. What a great attitude to have! Stretching your arms up to hang laundry is something many people only wish they could do. It's so easy to get caught up in life and the fast pace, that we forget to slow down, appreciate what we have and see the beauty all around us. Thanks for the reminder!

  12. Excellent!! Good for you!!
I love pegging out the washing in winter. I may end up with frozen fingers but it means there's blue sky, there's sunshine and I love the sight of washing on a line :)
Enjoy the small stuff, don't sweat the rubbish stuff :)

  13. I think that you should share exactly what you want to! It is your blog after all. Personally I don't go looking at blogs to see if someone is having a worse time than me, I go to be entertained, to find out something new, be inspired, to share the joy and lots of other happy things. I am quite prepared to listen and support when someone is having a bad time too and they want to share about it, but if they don't that is fine too. It is your blog and you choose what you share!! Sorry, I get quite cross about this! I really like reading your blog and enjoy what you have to say, even if I don't always comment! If not for you I would never have made my beautiful - even though I say so myself! - Nordic Shawl! Be who and what you are!! xx

  17. This is a fantastic post. Someone once said about my blogged how lucky I was to lead such a lovely life. Yes I am BUT for me I choose the special, happy , heart warming moments to share. Life can be, often is hard, difficult and tedious. But as you say by noticing the small invisible moments, one can turn bad days little by little better. Stay true to your heart and yourself and post what you want to post. Long may you continue. I love your blog

  36. Yes! Like everyone I have had both good and bad in my life. After both myself and my daughter having had cancer in the recent past I have deliberately chosen to focus on the good in my life every day because it's always there and always has been but I just didn't take the time to look for it and appreciate it, now I do. I love your blog. Thank you

  37. The shiny bits in life are really the only parts that matter. A friend told me that while he was caring for his wife who was dying they experienced some of the most tender and loving moments of their time together so now they are some of his favourite memories of their marriage. Even in the most difficult times in life there are wonderful things to cherish. I love visiting your blog because you share the shiny bits. Its a breath of fresh air to visit your lovely blog.

  38. It's always odd when people want to tell you what you should be putting on your own blog. I hope that you share what you want to share. I know I've always loved your posts, be they the shiny kind, or ones where it's hard to find the shine. You always express yourself so well whatever you have to say. Anyway, always like to try and find the shine, you are right I think, it's a happy way to lead your life. If the small things bring you pleasure, you will always have a plentiful supply of things to bring you pleasure, that's the way I look at it!

  42. Someone once said to me, do everything you do with love, then it is no longer a chore. Your examples fit this perfectly - homework, traffic jams, pegging out the washing. Blogging has also opened my eyes to the treasures all around me, a frozen cobweb, a stained glass window, snowdrops peeking through the soil. We only have this one life, lets make it good x

  43. Someone suggesting you should post more negative, "less shiny" content is about like them coming into your living room and demanding to see it dirty and unkempt. I feel like such requests come from small, bitter hearts who don't like to see someone happier than they are, or living in greater beauty. I want to see the beauty in your life and environs so that I am more attuned to noticing the same in my own. :-) I'm so glad I found your blog; please carry on as you have LOL!
