Giving birth to a pattern

Scrappy Happy V-stitch Blanket Pattern - soon in my shop.
Finishing touches... When I'm in the middle of pattern writing I really don't like it. It is a messy business. When it is ready and lying printed in full on my office table, I love it! It makes me so incredibly proud to be able to present a new pattern, after all those hours of tweaking, testing, photographing, designing, editing... For me a pattern is more than just written instructions on a piece of paper. For me a pattern needs to be visually pretty, functional and be easy to read. For me a pattern is almost as much of a piece of art as the item itself.

Tomorrow is the big day. Tomorrow this pattern will be available in my Etsy Shop. I can't wait. It is like giving birth every single time. It is soon over, just one more big push and the new pattern will soon be gently tucked into my Etsy Shop together with all the others. It might look like "just" a V-stitch blanket, but this blanket is so much more and not so predictable to make as it might appear.
I hope you will like it.

  2. I'm wondering what happens if you do two v stitch rows in one colour. Do you get a thicker band of colour, or does it just lose its definition? Anyway, beautiful blanket and it looks like you have the gorgeous photos to show it off.

A pattern even of the deceptively simple kind (I have been doing some knitted cowls, just for myself), take a surprising amount of time and work, with swatching, taking notes, experimentation etc. A blanket must take much longer and so there is much to appreciate when people take the time and trouble to prepare patterns for everyone to use. Thank you.

  7. Congrats on finishing up this pattern. You took some lovely photos of the new blanket design. I love the one of your daughter sitting on the snow with it wrapped around her.

  8. Having just completed my second Nordic shawl I can attest to the success of your hard work in pattern writing. You truly do a wonderful job of it; the instructions and photographs are so great. I finally decided on a pattern for my son's blanket and it Is the v-stitch: I will 'see' you tomorrow about the pattern!
    Best of luck,

  11. I'm thinking I'm going to treat myself to a pattern or two (I've wanted wrist warmers for awhile now!) I purchased yarn for another project - but I'm thinking I'd rather make your V stitch blanket instead!
