A few years ago I opened an online yarn shop selling Tilda yarn, my absolute favorite yarn. It is a Swedish brand, it is colorful, it is super smooth to work with and it is a cotton/acrylic 4ply yarn. It is fantastic for baby blankets and has great stitch definition. But... there is always a but isn't it? Since I closed up shop it isn't that easy to get your hands on this yarn anymore because I was the only international seller of Tilda yarn and as far as I know there is no one else who ships Tilda yarn internationally today. So, as my stash is getting smaller and smaller (I still have some colors left on 50% discount if you are interested, check it out here), I want to find an alternative 4ply cotton yarn to play with. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears. This is what I'm looking for:
• 4 ply, 50g=150m
• 100 % cotton or a cotton/acrylic mix. (Tilda has a mix of 50% cotton/50% acrylic)
• Matt finish. I prefer a matt look and find mercerized cotton to be hard to work with at times.
• Smooth and flexible, again because my hands hurt if it is to rigid or hard.
• Available in a million colors, preferably.
Ok. So, with all this in mind, I have put together a color chart of alternative yarn brands that you can use for my latest pattern, the Fun With Stripes Blanket. You can see the original Tilda yarn at the far left in the chart followed by two cotton 4ply alternatives, Scheepjes Catona and DMC Natura Just Cotton, and the last column shows a Stylecraft Special DK version as I know many of you love to work with that yarn. I hope this will be helpful.
I have just ordered a set of Scheepjes Catona to replicate the original version of my Fun With Stripes Blanket (I'm gifting the original blanket to my nephew Ellioth) and I'll share it with you after its done together with a little review.
That's all for now and until we meet again - Happy Hooking!
