Granny squares - now 166 of them

I am not sure how many of you who have been hanging around my place long enough to have seen this crochet WiP before. I started this project way back in July 2010 but I was quickly forced to take a crochet break for 5 months as I got struck by pain in my crochet elbow. Since then I have been very careful with the crochet. Going slow. And my oh my, this project really is sloooooooowwwww.

I am now up to 166 squares and if I have calculated it all right I have another 86 to go... But I don't mind that this is taking forever. I am really enjoying the making of each and every square. Combinating the colors, joining the squares as a I go and watching the blanket growing...

What I like less is to tie in ends... So therefor I do one row at a time. To avoid getting overwhelmed by all the million ends. But they are quite pretty to look at. :D Says a crochetoholic... Nobody else would understand that.

So while the blanket is growing, I am finding new favorite color combos (with a tendency of loving everything involving white or blue)... I have another crochet WiP going on as well. Something Christmassy. I'll show you soon. Thanks for popping by and I hope you enjoyed my little Gypsy blanket update.

  1. Oh herre gud... vilken filt! Men snart att låta den växa allt eftersom. Då kan du liksom bestämma att du är klar precis när du vill (har tröttnat alltså). :-)

  3. Wow that is a lot of squares :) it's looking great though! There is something so satisfying about watching a blanket grow isn't there... square after square, watching how it changes and grows each day. As for favourite colour combos, I really like the tonal squares in your last shot, beautiful! Jenny x

  5. This is soo adorable! It looks so fabulously old fashioned and colourful and snuggly. I'm glad you're enjoying taking it easy with this blanket, I know how long those little squares take and the ends!! It certainly is a pleasure to see the progress so far. Good luck with getting it all done, I can't wait to see the finised article!

  7. It's beautiful! I have a special place in my heart for lengthy projects, as my ripple blanket has ben a WIP since the spring and is very slow-going!

  8. I know what you mean! About the ends, that is. They can be quite appealing :) And sometimes I miss them after I get rid of them, ya know?
I never throw away my ends neither; I keep them! Sometimes I use them to stuff a puff or whatever, or I just set them free in the woods for the birds and animals to use them :)

  14. Hello! What a lovely blog you have. Thanks for stopping in to say hi. No, I am not Swedish, but some of my ancestors were and I just love Scandinavian things. I'm glad I described my idea of Switzerland well. It sounds like you have a wonderful life. Your granny square blanket is beautiful!

  16. You've done so much now not long and it will all be finished, I too love the little ends they are so pretty when I'm finished sewing (which I detest) them all in and snipped them off it pains me to have to throw them out I have thought about keeping them in a jar but alas that would just add to the clutter, but before I sew them all in I do like playing with them too xx

  18. I just found your website by google imaging for granny squares. I really love this blanket- it's twinkly! I am wondering, do you have any rules as far as color choices or color combinations? Just a beginner myself but I'd like to be able to get this look. Thanks, Beth.
