Procrastination - "Lets make pin cushions instead..."

"Procrastination - the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time." Source: Wikipedia.
Today I planned to:- Finish another baby patchwork quilt top
- Finish the Maybelle Crochet Flower garland in pinks and whites.
- Do my homework for an online course I am taking
- Play Monopoly with the kids
- Go for a walk
- Start on the final row of the edging on my Gypsy Blanket
- Make the final touches on my upcoming tutorial post

What did I do?
- I made scones for breakfast
- I organized folders on my computer
- I read about Google reader closing down and made a note about writing a post about this
- I worked on my husband's website that I have promised to make for him
- I made pin cushions, so much fun!!! :D
- I made mini crochet flowers for my Easter twigs :D
- I hung out on IG way to long :D
- I folded laundry

So what is it with procrastination? Why is it that we have such a hard time to follow through with a task that we have told ourselves needs to be done? It is like we refuse to move that big rock lying in front of us on the path and instead of just moving it we decide to look for mushrooms, pick berries, and admire the flowers. Climb a tree and swing over to the next tree, talk to a squirrel and sing along with the birds for the while until the sun goes down... Just to realize that I am still stuck here as I still have not moved that silly rock from my path... So just move the rock and then move on doing the rest!!! Sounds easy but for me it is very hard. A weird phenomenon... What about you? Do you procrastinate?

PS Tomorrow I hope I am kicking Mr Procrastination on his behind and move him out of my way to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. Fingers crossed...

  1. Procrastinators unite! I'm definitely one to talk to the squirrels instead of moving the rock. I think we should take time off each week in which we set no goals and just do what we want to do - let the laundry pile up and the kids entertain themselves - it'll all still be there tomorrow and you'll approach it much more fondly knowing you've been allowed some fun! Apart from that it sounds like you've actually achieved quite a lot anyway - you can never have too many pin cushions! Jane x

  2. Hi Annette. No need to procrastinate, we all share the same problem and sometimes it is just so good to actually tick the list, but mostly we all get sidetracked. The joy of being free spirits. Like the pincushions, they will look lovely with the pretty pins. Hannapatxxx

  3. Well I think I have been learning for me that putting off most things isn't really procrastinating. I think many things that I put on the list can wait and don't need to be done right away. So I try to do what I want to do or that I am in the mood for. If there are things I have to do like something for work and I put it off then I am procrastinating. But most things don't need to be done today. I love your pin cushions.

  4. Oh how lovely your story with the rock is ♥. And I know this so well! Just today it was the same for me. I only managed one thing of my list ;-). But tomorrow's another day and new time for catching up. Just see the positive: Your sweet pincushions are real beauties!! I've known this style only as crocheted before and I really like yours with these wonderful fabrics! ♥

  5. Oh yes, I recognize this. Always do other things than I wanted before. And then be angry at myself I have too short time to finish things...

  7. I share the crown with Stel as the Queen of Procrastination! But really, I think you were really being productive too! A creative break is so important so that we can do what needs to be done during the week :) Love your pincushions! I have to admit that I spent a ton of time procrastinating on IG this weekend as I am just learning how to use it. I ♥ it. xoxo

  11. Procrastination has always been my worst vice! It's ridiculous! Let's see what I get done today *grin* Those pin cushions are too cute! I think I'll whip one up today! No wait, I've been procrastinating on making myself new bedroom curtains from vintage sheets - maybe I should finally get those done? ;-)

  12. Of course I am!!

But this weekend, I finished 2 3 or maybe 4 things I've had on my list for months. And even years!!

    Have a nice day!

  13. I always have good intentions, but rarely get everything on my list done.
I've heard it said that you should do the most pressing(least fun) task first thing in the morning. Once that is out of the way, you've got the easier(fun)things to do for the rest of the day. I've not really tried that yet, maybe I will.
You write so well, you almost always make me laugh!

  15. Haha...I blame you and your beautiful pictures of granny squares for my procrastination today. I am on vacation this week and I am supposed to be packing. My family and I are moving to a new house in 5 weeks and I just spent most of day crocheting my own version of a gypsy blanket. I thank you truly!

  16. Well, moving the rock is very important, but if we did it straight away every time, when would we ever talk to squirrels?! Love your pincushions btw. <3

  17. Just found your lovely website and really enjoyed skipping through pages that I will be returning to in the future once I have stopped procrastinating! I have a theory that most of us just have too much in our "to do" list! Thanks for your inspiration xx
