Winter Wonderland in Gstaad

2015 - Ready or not, here I come!
We are back from our holiday
in Gstaad in the beautiful Swiss Alps. Did we get lucky or what? Driving up on the evening of the 25th, it was a bit of a depressing view. Grey and dull green hills with a teeny weeny bit of white on the highest mountain tops. We lit up the fire in our chalet thinking it will be a weird week up in the mountains if we can't go skiing. The day after we woke up to Winter Wonderland.

Hours have been spent outside on the slopes, on walking paths and with the dog Charlie who we have been lucky to dog sit for two weeks. He is the happiest chap in the snow. Absolutely hilarious! What great company he has been for adults as well as kids.

I've squeezed in some crochet, fiddling with a new stitch I had in mind making swatches and then I got stuck with my initial color choice of the Zommersjaal I'm making from Maaike aka CreJJtion's book Puur Haken... I tried not less than 5 different shades of reds and pinks on the last row but it just doesn't work... It has been put aside while I'm trying to figure out what I want to do...

The snow kept coming and we had a wonderful time with friends watching the fire works in the valley through our panorama window on New Years Eve. With a dog in the house we quickly fell into the routine of early morning walks as well as late evening ones. I really enjoyed the walks around dinner time when lights were lit on the houses and I could peek into peoples lit up windows to see what they were up to inside. I know... It's a bit naughty but I can assure you nothing naughty was going on in these homes... Ha ha ha!

The kids went ice skating, we had delicious Crépes with Nutella and Gruyere cheese and ham. Not just once but twice! We went to the pool to splash around and watched funny movies like Dumb and Dumber and The Mask. Jim Carrey seemed to be our great entertainer targeting all ages of our crowd.

We walked the street of Gstaad getting amused by ladies in big fur coats, fox tail hats and boots looking like bunnies. Add some plastic surgery and a strict diet to it and you know what I'm talking about... These ladies need straws to drink their coffee... We call it the Gstaad Fashion Show... The men are not far behind with their vane appearances, heavy wrist watches and slick hair do's. I can not stop getting fascinated by how the down to earth outdoor lifestyle and the incredible wealth collides in this winter town...

Now we are back home and getting into routines. The day we drove back home it started to rain and most of the snow washed off. The dog is going back to his owners, kids are back in school. My husband left for a business trip. And I am back at my blogging table. 2015 is full of surprises, for me as well as for you dear readers. Ready or not - here I come!

PS For the record. I'm not a judgemental person at all... It just sounds like it. I know we are all just human beings no matter nationality, color of our skin, age, weight, social status, backgrounds, appearance or knowledge etc... I have a big heart and I truly believe everyone is special. But of course this doesn't stop me from being human and getting fascinated by those who are so different from my own nature... Not judging. Just fascinated. Bunny boots? I just don't get it... Bunnies are cute. Boots are practical.

  1. I love the scenery!. Here in Norway we got snow and -20 for Christmas. I have loved every second of it. Today we have "underkjølt regn" and the world is polished. I keep on knitting, the crochet must wait a while. So many people freezing and wanting my felted mittens :o) Wish you all the best for 2015.

  4. I'm with you Annette! I love looking in windows at night - not so much to see what the people are doing, but how they decorate their homes! 'People Watching' is also one of my favorite past times! lol!

  12. I would never call it "judgement" but "observation" ....hehehe. I love people watching and we humans are endlessly fascinating. I have always liked peeking into homes too, I think it's comes from a natural curiosity rather than snooping. Charlie the dog sounds like he bought a lot of good energy to your holiday.

  13. Christmas in the snow is like a dream to me. I live in Australia so its summer for Christmas which of course I am used to and its lovely but to have a white Christmas like that would be so special. One day..... I dont find you judgemental. You are just making observations of what you see. Happy New Year and I really enjoy your colourful creations!
