Shuffle, shuffle... Shuffle, shuffle. Do you recognize that noise? Do you have an 11-year old in the house as well? Like a cat shuffling the sand in a litter box, Luca Bo is shuffling Lego pieces around and the noise is kind of comforting. It can be early in the morning or late at night before going to bed... Luca is in a Lego Creator phase. And it is intense. Hours are spent in quiet shuffling for pieces, adding one cube to another creating the most amazing airplanes.
I think I have vacuumed his room 3 times since Christmas. Not kidding... The thing is, the mess is an organized mess and when I ask him to tidy up I can see in his eyes that there is NO WAY he is going to sabotage his absolutely-in-control-creative-mess. Forget it. So I do. I let him and his mess alone. I should. I know what it's like to be creative. And to be honest, it is quite entertaining to walk around in his Lego World and check out his Lego scenes... The airport bridge, the Check in desk, the security check, the pilots, the airplane technicians... It is like a small Legoland in his room.
He has this thing for airplanes and he has this thing for Lego and the two of them go very well together. The problem is that there are no more airplanes to purchase from Lego, at least not available for an affordable price, so Luca Bo has started to build "Free Style". Yep! A real Lego Creator he is.
It started with a somewhat big construction and many times he came down in tears as it broke into pieces during his building journey. But as much as he cried and wanted to throw it all away at times, he didn't give up. Instead he learned from his mistakes and made the airplane more sturdy, bigger, better!
Now we have run out of pieces. The dream is Lego Pick & Mix. To go to a store and pick the pieces Luca Bo wants and pay for the weight. "That would be heaven, Mama!" he says with a big grin. And then he continues: "I'm gonna be a Lego designer when I grow up. For sure. I'm good at this." I believe him. He sure is good. He has some great engineering skills going here.
Our Lego Creator is turning 11 today and we have the big surprise all lined up. The kids are taken out of school and tomorrow we all go to Legoland in Germany, staying in a Lego Castle Hotel and sleep in Lego beds. And I just hope that they have Lego Pick & Mix there. That would be the icing on the cake and he is so worth it our Lego Creator Luca Bo. Happy Birthday my darling. I hope all your dreams will come through for you in life. Love you to the moon and back. For real.
Kärlek

PS 2: Luca watches Lego creating videos on You Tube and that is how he got started, making cars following building tutorials... And from there it has moved on to make his own designs... Sounds so familiar to me...;) I think we are related. :o
Congratulations with your big boy!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice stay in Legoland.
Happy birthday to Luca - what a great treat you have planned for him. He certainly is a Lego creator! When we were on holiday a few weeks ago we came across a Lego shop with big pick & mix bins of all types of Lego bricks. Unfortunately our Lego boys are now too old to play with Lego. Mind you, I think my husband was still VERY tempted to buy some for himself.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I'm so with you on this! The sound of the whoosh whoosh of lego being sifted in tubs really is kind of comforting. My 15 year old loves lego and is building loads at the moment. He keeps coming and finding me around the house to show me his latest make. The 8 year old loves it too, and they sometimes play happily together creating, but usually it ends in arguments because they each want the same piece! We are taking the youngest to Legoland in a couple of weeks with a friend. The 15 year old is kind of bummed he's missing out as he has school but I have a list of stuff to get from the pick and mix there!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay for lego. It's an absolute pain to step on, but it sure enhances a creative brain! x
I wish your Lego Creator all the best. And have a perfect stay at Legoland.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to Denmark in August and my kids, 7 and 8 are soooooo longing to go.
Happy borthday
Happy Birthday Luca. Enjoy your trip to Legoland.
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant! And I know the situation so well - I hardly ever get round to vacuuming in my middle son's room because that's where they do ALL THE LEGO. For them it's usually spaceships. Or 'smashers', intricate but strong 'clubs' that they have battles with that all three boys participate in. The 'smasher' that doesn't break wins.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading about your trip to Legoland. The boys have been asking to go for ages but I'm hoping to wait for another year at least, because boy #3 is only 3...
Isn't it just the best! They're growing up, but they're still little boys. My son's new friend said to his mom he likes my boy "because he still plays" - so many boys in their class don't play with toys anymore!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Legoland. I'd love to take my boys - we were nearby a couple of years ago but just couldn't fit it in :-(
(Does he also make his own little videos? :-D )
Hello. Happy Birthday to Luca Bo. What a wonderful present he has. Your post brought back such sweet memories. My youngest son was a Lego fanatic. We had a wonderful summer holiday in Denmark many years ago with my best friend who was Danish ( I lost my friend 18months ago to Ovarian cancer) both our families went - she had lived in England for many years. We of course went to Legoland. My boys were in heaven - but especially the youngest. He is still very creative - he kept his Lego - well I did for many years- he had it back and his daughters play with it - with a few pink etc girlie pieces in :-) Part of our holiday was spent in a Summerhouse not far from the beach. Thank you for BRI going back my happy memories. X
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteMy son is 10 and he prefers making his own creations. As soon as he finishes with the instructions, he deconstructs and gets down to the really fun part: his ideas.
PS. And he stores his Lego in big boxes under his bed; the same one as your boy's.

Happy Birthday to a future engineer!
ReplyDeleteHappy Lego Birthday! If you google lego cake moulds you can find lego bricks etc to make a lego inspired birthday cake so you can indulge your lego inner child also. Have fun at Lego Land. Rebecca
ReplyDeleteLuca looks to have a real talent, which you are right to give a free reign to and have such a good and relaxed attitude about. Who knows what it could lead to? I hope Luca has a fantastic day and gets all those new lego bits and pieces that he is dreaming of. Happy Birthday Luca! Enjoy your fantastic birthday surprise. This was a lovely post and so nice to share in.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Luca! You are a very talented builder!
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading I wished I could get Luca to Disneyworld, where there is a Lego pick & mix and Downtown Disney. (I always wanted to know someone who could make good use of the place.) So glad you have been able to plan his birthday trip!
Happy Birthday!!!!!

ReplyDeleteHappy happy birthday!!! A true designer, such creativity! (I remember the no vacuuming days. lol)
ReplyDeleteHave a great birthday holiday Luca! Wow what a wonderful creation.
ReplyDeleteWe spent so much money on lego kits when my sons were little and they always liked making their own creations so much more. He looks like he is doing great, hugs,

Smart boy. That is a huge plane. I like how he even made a connecting terminal for it.
ReplyDeleteUau,que lindo!!! Parabéns amiguinho.Beijo.Valéria.
ReplyDeleteThis looks a familiar sight, although not quite on such an impressive scale I admit. My girl is more in favour of playing with the finished item than the process but Lego looms large in our house too! Happy Birthday to Luca, he looks so well already!
ReplyDeleteS x
That is a really great plane, very worthy of lots of photos! I used to get Lego trench foot trying to walk across my sons room, do you know what I mean! We recently found an old valid lego voucher recently, my son couldn't choose anything that wasn't hundreds of pounds, he is 16. So he let me buy the vintage lego caravan, I am really enjoying seeing it on my windowsill. Never too old for lego! Have a good day. X
